Vinyasa, Hatha, and Slow Flow

The Asanas of Yoga (the poses) can be linked together in myriad ways. A yoga 'flow' is simply the smooth connection and transition between several poses to allow for the focus on being steady in each position. We offer two paces of flow at Luna Scura to match your mood.

Ashtanga

Popularised by K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga is a physically focused and energetic practice which prioritizes the synchronicity of breath, posture and point of focus in repetition. A powerful flow, Ashtanga offers the practitioner a set practice, allowing for clear progression in skill within the postures over time.

Yin

A practice of stillness, Yin is a more static approach to sitting with the postures to allow for the body to open to the challenge of each pose.

AIReal Yoga

AIReal Yoga is designed to add dynamic components and eliminate boundaries to your practice, broadening the scope of physical work required to achieve a solid base within each pose. Within the style, there are restorative, rehabilitative, therapeutic and power/strength classes. **This is not circus-arts-based or acrobatic in nature. **

The postures and transitions using the AIReal silk rigs are designed to broaden the boundaries of your yoga practice. AIReal Yoga is the only aerial practice reviewed and incorporated into the Yoga Alliance. The silk and swivel mechanism can make yoga more accessible for those who find postures difficult or are moving through challenges preventing regular practice.

Yoga Nidra

‘Yogic Sleep’ is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness is different from meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required. In Yoga Nidra the practitioner remains in a state of disengagement and only the sense of hearing still connects to any instructions given. The goals of Yoga Nidra and meditation are the same, a state of meditative consciousness; Yoga Nidra simply takes you to a deeper state of release and relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness.

Yoga Nidra results in conscious awareness of the deep sleep state, which allows for the practitioner to become familiar with the state in a safe way and increases the likelihood of the practitioner being able to find that state again with more ease. Many find that this practice is an invaluable addition to the treatment of sleep disorders, PTSD, anxiety, depression and other sources of physical and emotional stress.

Meditation

Meditation is the practice of focusing the mind on a particular thought, item or activity; training our awareness to gain clarity while staying emotionally calm. Mindfulness is ‘moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness' and is key to any meditation practice. Several methods are used during time set aside specifically for meditation, such as body scan techniques or letting thoughts arise and pass, and even just being aware of the taste and texture of the food that we eat. Meditation and mindfulness practices are beneficial for the brain's self-regulation, increasing activity in the anterior cingulate cortex. A shift from using the right prefrontal cortex is thought to be associated with a trend away from depression and anxiety, and towards happiness, relaxation and emotional balance. Guided meditation can be an incredible tool for beginning, maintaining or expanding a mindfulness practice.

Sound Bath

Sound bath is a meditative experience offering resonant, vibrational sounds from various instruments, promoting relaxation, reduction of stress, and a shift of brainwaves into a meditative state. Instead of focusing on breath, you simply listen and let the sustained tones wash over you, encouraging your body and mind to release tension and enter a state of deep calm.

Practitioners use various instruments, including metal and crystal singing bowls, drums, gongs, tuning forks, chimes, and sometimes the human voice.

Reiki/Energy Work

This practice eases stress and tension that restricts flow of vital energy throughout the body. By accessing and easing the flow of this universal energy, we aid your natural healing and coping mechanisms. Reiki is often used to compliment other clinical or therapeutic treatments to help manage related side effects or stress.

Known as 'Ki' in Japan, 'Chi' in China and 'prana' in India, this universal energy is known by other names throughout human history. Reiki is the Japanese word for the therapeutic practice developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century, also known as the Usui System or Therapeutic Touch.

Your Reiki practitioner might dim the lights and play soothing music. With your consent, they will put their hands on, or a few inches above your body, moving the location of their hands across your body, usually starting at your head and working down to your feet. There will be no physical contact near nipple, gluteal or groin areas.

A session usually lasts 30-60 minutes.

Touch is not mandatory.

You are under no obligation to disclose any personal or medical information.

You will not get undressed.

You can have your eyes open or closed.

It is important that you have trust in the security of the location and procedures before you begin your session. If you feel uncomfortable at any time during the session, let us know immediately.

In the world of Reiki, there are 3 different ‘levels’ of practitioners.

  • Level 1 - reiki is used to treat yourself, family and friends but are not able to treat other people or charge money for treatment
  • Level 2 (also called practitioner level) - have studied under supervision at a higher level and can use reiki for others.
  • Level 3 means you are a reiki master or teacher

Most reputable practitioners will be able to provide you with a minimum level 2 certification from a professional Reiki association.

There are no reports of harmful side effects, but we recommend telling your doctor about any complementary, alternative therapy or diet supplement that you use.

It is important to bear in mind that there is no scientific evidence that Reiki can prevent, treat or cure illness or disease by itself.

Breathwork

Many practices involving conscious control of breathing in various ways can influence mental, emotional, and physical states. With ancient roots in yoga (Pranayama) and Traditional Chinese Medicine, breathwork is now used for stress relief, focus, and well-being. Techniques range from simple, slow breathing to more intense methods like Holotropic and circular breathing, affecting the nervous system, improving heart rate variability, and helping with anxiety, burnout, or even PTSD.

Breathwork focuses on consciously regulating depth, speed, and rhythm and modulates the autonomic nervous system, shifting from fight-or-flight (sympathetic) to tend-and-befriend (parasympathetic) states.

Many techniques are easily integrated into daily life, and can be done anywhere. Let’s practice taking up all the space we’ve been given!
